For the seven years Brian has coached basketball in one of Nairobi’s most disadvantaged settlements, he has taken an important life lesson. “Everyone has their story. It is interesting to listen and to learn from each story and to know what it means to own those stories like the kids I teach do.”\
Brian is an eternal optimist and every day, he uses his vast experience in basketball practice to impact his community in his little way. His first love is facilitating the positive transformation of young people through sports. “I want to use my experience to inspire kids to become better. To remind them to never give up in life and to show them the way to the light at the end of the tunnel.”
For him, the Basketball Experience is a community through which he hopes to exchange knowledge, interact with people from various communities and backgrounds, continue to inspire more people, and gain more coaching experience.
What does he hope will be the impact of the Basketball Experience on his community? “I hope this experience will help in the long-term development of athletes which has not been common in Africa. I hope that the experience will teach our kids to be professional in the sport.”
To the young people benefiting from this experience, Brian has a message, “come one, come all, and let’s have fun.”
